Deepfire: PTW hop up components

Postby andres on Fri Jan 15, 2010 11:35 am

Today I came across these new components. I have no idea about their behaviour or quality. I thought it could be interesting

If they're anything like their rubbish barrels I'd steer well clear of them.

The barrels I've seen so far have no provisuion machined into them to allow the adjuster to move up and down enough to give a range of adjustment.
Infact the adjusters couldn't move at all.

No advantage to be gained at all by purchasing these, but only useful as spares when you can't get genuine.

I can comment on the HopUp Packing in the first link being pretty lackluster and dissapointing.

For $7 you can't really complain since it's so cheap but for paying any amount you'd at least expect it to work out of the package.

I had to tinker around with mine for a while and finally wound up filing down the insides of the packing to:

1) Allow a Systema barrel to fit in the first place (The factory dimensions are WAY too small for any barrel to fit out of the packaging)

2) Allow the cushion to be pushed down by the Hop-Up adjuster screw to impart any Hop whatsoever on the BB (Even after filing it down I barely get any Hop affected on the BB)

Aside from the first problem of the packing not fitting a Systema barrel out of the box, they made a mistake in the HopUp rubber in that it's too thin to reach down towards the center of the packing to make the HopUp actually put hop on the BB's.(If that wording makes sense)

When I get some more time I'll swap out the HopUp rubber and see what happens.

On that note, does anyone know of what type/brand of HopUp rubber will even work with the PTW? I've casually looked for them since I've owned a PTW and it seems when your HopUp goes bad you have to buy the entire HopUp packing unit. Is that the only solution?

jdizzle, maybe you can ask Tack to make some adjusters using his system for replacements? It's best to fit them to the barrel though.

Sorry if I'm out of line on that Tony, but your system is still the best.

jdizzle921: "(The factory dimensions are WAY too small for any barrel to fit out of the packaging)" - that's wrong. The deep fire one fit the PDI 6.01 perfect, tight as it should be and not wobblywobbly like systemas. However, you are right about the issue about the rubber not reaching down (thin rubber or placed too high). We got some silicone tube in a thicker dimension replaced it. Now it works great.

Mac- Do you mean make an adjustment on the small black rubber pieces that cushion the packing when making your hop-up adjustments? Or something totally different? :)

What did you use to punch out the pin that holds in the rubber, saft?

I keep trying to get mine out without snapping the ring in half and I'm not really getting anywhere. I've managed to break the glue they have on there to at least make the pin poke out about 2mm, but the center portion doesn't seem to be going anywhere. :(

I mean the whole adjuster cage, not the cushions.

This is how I get the pin out:

1) Clamp the cage in a set of Vise-Grips so that both sides of the "U" are euqlly clamped. Clamp it good, even if you marr the adjuster a tiny bit is OK (not too much though).

2) Scrape out all glue inside the holes on both sides.

3) Push the pin out with a small o-ring pick or similar. I use Snap-On picks and the 90 and 45 are perfect.

4) Reverse procedure for re-assembly, but put Crazy Glue or similar in the holes prior to putting the pin in.

It took me a time or two to perfect a procedure, but it's really not that bad to do.

You saved my $7 :D
First thing came up to my mind when I saw the first link was "damn that silicone packing looks like it came out of MJ's nose"
I guess i have to buy another die-cast systema ring than...
Boy this is my 5th one already  ON THE SAME GUN...
Systema's QC control's gone nuts, one adjuster I bought had a hole pinned in slightly "slanted", making the entire thing useless. I also had a problem with their magazine catch release buttons, as it refused to go in the screw because of bad threading.

Have you considered the Empire Airsoft CNC ones? They're much stronger than the Systema allows, so they won't snap on you. I don't think performance has really improved much, but some people claimed it did on their PTWs.
